All credit goes to Fred Bastide for imagining this very cool design in his award-winning 3D entry for the Grand Space Opera CG Challenge. I just translated it into Lego, a much lesser feat.
Usually with my concept art-inspired mocs, I get pretty close with my interpretations but make a few significant artistic liberties. With this one however, I opted to go for a direct translation of the ship, making few changes. I had purchased the Galactic Space Opera book for the wealth of inspiration its pages, and it was a constant source of help during the 7 slug-paced weeks it took to build this moc.
Typically, I threw in a couple of play features. Not only does it come with an opening rear hatch and completely retractable landing gear, but a slider can be moved under the ship to reveal a secret missile cluster in the nose of the fighter.
